Voice of Tobacco Victims, a support group of cancer survivors and clinicians, led by Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai doctors have asked the State Election Commission (SEC) to ban political funding from the tobacco companies before the civil elections in the state.

Treatments for quitting

Shortly after waking up, he would have a cigarette with his coffee. He chain-smokes his way through the day working at his computer. Enjoying his smoke and beer was a way of life and comfort, he said.
But in April 2010, after finding out he had clogged arteries in the neck, his doctor told him that it might be a good idea to quit smoking, and he agreed.

Quit Smoking?

  • This is the second of three articles on issues related to smokers and nonsmokers. It is the experience of hardcore smokers. in connection with the National Heart Institute (IJN) Stop smoking clinic.
  • Excuses like “Its tough, I cannot do it” and “If I stop, my weight will shoot up” are usually given by hardcore smokers when they are told to quit the habit.
    It must be acknowledged that quitting smoking is difficult but not impossible.

    Tobacco taxation

    Nicotine patches

    Nicotine patches are no better than willpower alone in helping smokers quit their habit, a study has found.
    Gums and nasal sprays are equally ineffective, according to research in the US by the Harvard University School of Public Health.
    Surveys of 787 smokers attempting to give up showed a third relapsed whether using nicotine replacement products or not.
