Solution to smoking isn’t e-cigarettes

e cigarettesThe public health impact of tobacco use is devastating. In New York, 25,400 adults die each year as a result of smoking. Another 570,000 New Yorkers suffer from serious smoking-caused diseases, which cost the state more than $22 million per day in medical expenses.

Some smokers are turning to the e-cigarette for help. Only the e-cig has misleading marketing and tells consumers they can use it indoors. This is not the case — although it is not covered under the law, places have the right to refuse its use on their property. It is also not regulated by the Federal Drug Administration for approval. Studies show its vapors contain air coolant, which can cause respiratory ailments.
